A little change of pace today. The Vtech Learn and Go Buzz Lightyear (Based on Toy Story 3) is a handheld gaming device for children between 4 and 6 years old. Control is through a straightforward qwerty keyboard, with a very simple layout. The screen is a black and white LCD. Not too fancy, but decent for the age group. There are 8 different activities included, all designed to be educational. Children get to practice skills in letter matching, letter order, spelling, and (this must be why they link it to Toy Story 3) beginning Spanish.
The authentic voice of Buzz Lightyear guides them through the games. Durable, and small enough to entertain a child while they’re on the go. It measures less than 6x7x2 inches, and uses 3 AA batteries. User reviews are overwhelmingly positive, with only one negative review. Most rated it between 4 and 5 stars, with a high enjoyment level from the children. Mention was made that his volume is very loud, even on lowest setting. I could see this being a problem, but to be honest, to me it seems like a benefit.
And if you’re wondering, no, I don’t have this one. Not really a good fit for my personal collection, though I’d certainly keep him if he was a gift!
